A dozen talented musicians from Massapequa High School were named to prestigious music ensembles and will perform with students from across Long Island, the state and the nation.

Four students earned selections to the New York State School Music Association’s All-State Music Festival, and an additional three were named alternates. Senior James K. and junior Mia T. were chosen as violinists for the orchestra, and juniors Carli S. (soprano) and Kate D. (alto) will join the chorus.

Serving as alternates are seniors Juliane B. (cello), Luigi L. (chorus, bass) and Julianna M. (chorus, alto). The All-State festival will be held from Dec. 5-8 in Rochester.

Senior Sarah B. was selected to the mixed chorus by the National Association for Music Education. A soprano, Sarah was chosen based on her NYSSMA solo performance score and for having been a previous All-State selection. The All-National festival was scheduled for Nov. 7-10 in Orlando.

James, Mia and Juliane will be joined by sophomore Madeline D. (cello), junior Jack D. (viola), senior Niamh M. (viola) and senior Brianna P. (viola) at the Long Island String Festival Association’s Nassau Secondary concert on Nov. 17 in Levittown.

The students chosen to the three festivals are under the tutelage of orchestra teacher Marjorie Spagnuolo and chorus teachers Ilena Dempsey and Nichole Greene.
