Games, sports, and arts and crafts are among the many daily activities in the Massapequa School District’s summer recreation program, which is attended by hundreds of children from the six elementary schools. Approximately 125 middle school-age students are also participating in the Teen Center program.
The five-week elementary program runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., five days a week. In addition to the camp activities, there are field trips for bowling, laser tag, miniature golf, the movies, the pool and more. There have also been special events at the camps including live games shows and ceramics painting along with the annual carnival day filled with activities such as bounce houses, dunk tanks, face painting and potato sack races.
Each camp is supervised by a certified teacher with support from college assistants and high school counselors, who bring the children to the different activities and ensure they are all having fun.
