Postcards from across the country fill a bulletin board in Tara Mathers’ third-grade classroom at Unqua Elementary School. The project was the culmination of a lesson on geography and map skills.
Each student wrote a letter to someone they knew in another state and requested a postcard, in addition to asking his or her recipient to pass along the letter to get even more responses. Soon after, the postcards started coming in from all over the United States and even other countries.
By early January, the class had received postcards from 46 of 50 states, with the most popular being Florida. Postcards included pictures of animals, college campuses, historical sites, stadiums and other tourist attractions.
