The World’s Wonders on Display at Science Discovery Fair

Curiosities about the world were the impetus behind the 78 projects featured in the Massapequa School District’s annual Science Discovery Fair on March 16. It was open to students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

The fair was the culmination of months of hard work by 188 young scientists, who worked independently or in teams to explore a wide range of concepts, from electricity to chemical reactions to natural phenomena. Experiments were completed at home, and students showed their processes and results on large trifold display boards.

Judges walked around the Berner Middle School cafeteria and talked to students about their projects. The adjudicators included Massapequa teachers and students from the high school’s science research program. Awards were presented at the end of the grades K-4 and 5-8 showcases.
