Eagle class celebrates Chinese New Year

Librarians facilitate access to resources and share information.  Recently, Mrs. Susman scheduled a live-streamed, multipoint video connection in the Art room with Mrs. Krakoff for Mrs. Findlay’s class to celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Rat.  The New York State Distance Learning Consortium sent sample materials to engage our students. This introductory lesson regarding cultures, language and customs will continue in the library next week where the class will listen to a story and construct a paper lantern. During the video conference children participated in the following:
Learn how to say “Hello” and “Good-bye” in Chinese
Hear a story about the Chinese Zodiac
Learn how to say “Happy New Year of Rat” in Chinese
Learn why Chinese people like the color red
Learn about the traditions of Chinese New Year
Create a Chinese New Year envelope
