East Lake Students Engineer Lookout Mountain

Zachary Ready, a former Massapequa High School Graduate and college engineering graduate from University of New Hampshire recently visited Mrs. Ready’s 3rd grade classroom. He helped the young engineers construct stand alone towers. The tower called Lookout Mountain, would be a building or tower that is tall enough to see beyond the snow. Designs needed to be constructed with only the materials provided. They were: dried spaghetti and mini marshmallows.During the engineering process the structure needed to completely stand alone and have 1 large marshmallow as a lookout at its highest point. Points were earned on how high the large marshmallow sat from the ground to the top of Lookout Mountain. Zachary helped the students using engineering skills throughout this hands on activity.
