A Place for Book Lovers at Birch Lane

Browsing for books is a Monday morning tradition for second-graders in Janeen Signorile’s class at Birch Lane Elementary School in the Massapequa School District. Typically, the students look through the classroom library but recently they started visiting the school’s Independent Reading Room, which is not only full of books on different reading levels, but with comfortable seating options such as bean bag and lounge chairs.

The room is frequently used by kindergarten through fifth-grade classes as another means of fostering literacy development and a love for reading.
