Understanding Text Structures

Students are currently studying text structures and analyzing how and why authors structure their texts. Students interacted with non-fiction texts as both readers and writers. This week, students practiced reading and writing texts in the "chronological (sequence)" text structure. After reading a biography about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on TrueFlix, students paraphrase a written biography about King. The sixth-grade curriculum in quarter 3 focuses on non-fiction reading and writing. In studying text structures, students are empowering their analysis skills in reading and writing. In reading and writing a biography about Dr. King, students are also celebrating Black History Month.
