Nearly 200 seniors filled the Massapequa High School auditorium on Dec. 17 to hear a performance worthy of Carnegie Hall. The music department presented its annual community concert, An Afternoon of Holiday Music, showcasing the talents of its student-musicians.
Taking the stage first was the Treble Choir under the direction of Ilena Dempsey. Its set ranged from traditional Christmas songs like “All is Calm, Sleep in Peace” (commonly known as “Silent Night”) to more contemporary hits such as “All I Want for Christmas is You.”
The orchestra, conducted by Marjorie Spagnuolo, delighted the crowd with its Christmas Festival, a medley of popular Christmas songs, before wrapping up its performance with “Sleigh Ride.” Students in the A Cappella Choir donned their blue robes and sang “Carol of the Bells,” “Candlelight Carol” and other songs under the direction of Nichole Greene.
The concert concluded with a combined performance by the orchestra and choral groups.
