It is the mission of the Massapequa Public Schools Mathematics Department to provide students with the knowledge and understanding of the mathematics necessary to function in a world very dependent upon the application of mathematics. Whether choosing a mathematics program or designing curriculum or instruction this goal translates into three components, conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and problem-solving. Knowledge learned with understanding provides a foundation for remembering or reconstructing mathematical facts and methods, for solving new and unfamiliar problems, and for generating new knowledge.
Mathematics Course Content Booklet
The Mathematics Department offers a variety of required and elective math and computer programming courses. While only three years of mathematics are required for a Regents Diploma, college-bound students are strongly recommended to take a fourth or fifth year. The majority of college majors require students to take mathematics courses as part of their core curriculum. Taking mathematics as a senior provides a smoother transition to the pace and rigor of a college mathematics course.
