Community Letter Addressing the District's Opposition to Regionalization Plans
Dear Massapequa Community,
We are writing to inform you of a significant development that will profoundly impact the future of our school district. The New York State Education Department (NYSED) has recently introduced an Emergency Rule regarding the implementation of a Regionalization Plan. This plan has the potential to fundamentally alter the structure and identity of our District, with long-term implications for our community. In response, and in an effort to preserve our local control, Massapequa UFSD has taken the following actions:
- Drafted and sent a letter of concern and opposition, signed by the Board of Education, the MFT President, and Superintendent of Schools. This letter has been sent directly to the Deputy Commissioner of Education, expressing our deep reservations regarding the plan.
- Discussed this initiative and our concerns thoroughly in a public session at the October 24, 2024 Board meeting. A video of our discussion is embedded below and also available on our YouTube Channel BOE Playlist.
