Elementary Social Work Newsletter April 2020
Created to help support our elementary students from a distance with resources to maintain positive well-being from home.
Our Mission is to:
-
- Prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth and over time among adults by addressing the factors in the community that increases the risk of substance abuse and promotes the factors that minimize the risk of substance abuse.
- Establish and strengthen collaboration with the Massapequa community, private nonprofit agencies, Federal, State and local governments to support the efforts of our commmunity coalition to prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth.
- Educate the community about risk and protective factors that impact alcohol and other drug use so as to reduce risk and enhance protective factors.
- Provide support to our student population, assess students experiencing emotional distress, school related difficulties, behavioral problems, etc.
- Provide support and education to parents.
- Provide referrals to our families and students in need.
- Identify current trends in substance abuse and mental health issues and develop and present educational programs to address these trends.
- Be a resource to faculty and administration regarding substance abuse and mental health.

Each school, depending on size, is allocated a portion of a budget that was granted to MTA by the Massapequa Board of Education. The budgeted funds are used to implement awareness and prevention programs for our students and their families.
