Community Cheers on Ames Hoopsters
A crowd upwards of 350 people enthusiastically cheered on the Massapequa High School Ames Campus Challenger basketball team on March 7 and also honored a beloved student. It was the final game of the season for the ninth grade players who hit the court against neighboring Amityville.

Ninth Graders Learn That Mental Health Matters
Mental health awareness was at the forefront at the Massapequa High School Ames Campus in February. The Ames Social and Emotional Learning committee, in partnership with the Chiefs Challenge and Active Minds clubs, focused on suicide awareness and prevention.

Alumni Visit Ames to Tout Technology Courses
Technology courses inspired Brianna Hobert and Chris Sciortino during their years at Massapequa High School. On Jan. 30, the graduates returned to speak to ninth graders at the Ames Campus about how these classes played a role in their future plans.

Student-Musicians Named to All-County Ensembles
The Massapequa School District had 124 student-musicians selected to participate in the 2024 All-County music festival. The annual event, hosted by the Nassau Music Educators Association, recognizes students in grades 5-12.

First, Ninth Graders Bond Over Ames Holiday Displays
Classroom and office doors were so wonderfully decorated at the Massapequa High School Ames Campus that it was worth sharing with others. On Dec. 20, first graders from the neighboring Lockhart Elementary School were invited to walk through the building and see the creative designs.

Ames Students Make Real Connections to 9/11 Book
To support their reading of “Ground Zero” by Alan Gratz, ninth graders at the Massapequa High School Ames Campus recently heard from a survivor of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Retired New York City firefighter Donald Mormino told his story about the rescue efforts that morning at the World Trade Center, and how he survived after going underground into a subway station when the second tower came down.

Gratitude Promotes a Positive Attitude at Ames
Ninth graders took a moment to reflect on everything they are grateful for at the Massapequa High School Ames Campus on Nov. 20. The annual gratitude day, purposefully held just days before Thanksgiving, was led by Ames administrators and pupil personnel services staff, who visited every science class throughout the day.

Deaf Comedian Entertains and Educates in Massapequa
The Massapequa High School auditorium was the setting for a lively performance by deaf comedian Peter Cook, who entertained students in American Sign Language programs across the region on Nov. 3. Students and teachers from 21 high schools and middle schools in Nassau, Suffolk and Queens attended the performance. The 750 audience members included students in ASL classes at Massapequa High School’s main and Ames campuses.
